5 on Friday – Winter Blues

Hello Friday!  Glad to see ya again!

I am so sick of this weather!  Yesterday was 18 degrees and we got about an inch of snow.  I welcomed this behavior back in December and maybe January.  But now…I am over it and ready to not see my jacket until at least December.

I am obsessed with my super easy vday decor.  Since it’s been so cold, I haven’t been getting out much the past few days so what’s a girl to do?  Valentine’s crafts of course!  I saw this pin with printout hearts and it was as simple as cutting and hanging up.  I used some tiny cute clothespins left over from wedding shower crafts and a ribbon to hang them up.

Mental note – update picture frame photos haha

Since I have been spending a lot of time indoors, it has given me a chance to get some serious use out of the Barre3 DVDs I got for christmas.  I’ve done them 3 days in a row, and I am feeling the burn in my core and arms!

I really hope it warms up before tomorrow morning at 8 am because I am running the Hot Chocolate 15k!  Right now the weather is showing an expected 30 degrees at start time…wonderful!  I just really really hope it is above freezing.  But hey, at least I get a bunch of hot chocolate at the end right?  Totally makes it worth running 9.3 miles for huh? 😉

I am no stranger to running in miserable weather…time to bust out the ‘ol penguin hat!

I thought I would cure myself of the winter blues by perusing some of my favorite online stops for sales and found this amazing deal on a Kendra Scott necklace that I think would make an excellent addition to my collection.  For a savings of $128, don’t mind if I do!!!  Plus, I think it would look so pretty with outfits of all seasons!  Last Call always has great deals on Kendra Scott if you catch it at the right time!  Check it out, you won’t be sorry!

That’s all folks!!  Have a great weekend, and cross your fingers I don’t freeze to death tomorrow morning!!

JRaab’s Closet – #1

Today I am excited to link up with Sarah and Shanna for their weekly fashion linkups to showcase “What I Wore Wednesday” aka WIWW.  I actually wore this dress last “Casual Friday” in the office.  I usually always think about what I am going to wear the next day before falling asleep but after being sick and living in sweatpants and a snuggie the past 2 weeks, I have been feeling pretty uninspired.  So what’s a girl to do?  Pinterest of course!  I just searched “Casual Friday” and a bunch of super cute outfits (and funny cartoons) popped up!

20140131-185328.jpgExhibit A – I love penguins so I had to share! 🙂

This outfit in particular peaked my interest because I had a similar sweater and jeans and couldn’t remember the last time I wore them.

The inspiration from Pop of Style

And here is my take on it:

Both the sweater and jeans are from Old Navy, the boots are Steve Madden, and the necklace is one of my favs which I ordered online almost 2 years ago at the beginning of the whole “bubble necklace” craze.  Also, I swear I don’t wear this sweater all the time!  It has just had a lot of face time on the blog so far!

Be sure to check out everyone else’s fashion posts on Sarah and Shanna’s blogs!

Get Pin-spired – January

I am super excited to link up with Sheaffer, Shay, and Mel for their monthly Pinterest inspired linkup.  Over the past year I have looked forward to looking at everyone’s fun outfits on the 1st of every month.  Here are 2 of my favorite “Pin-spired” looks this month:

{Mustard & Plaid}

The Pin-spiration (via)

I fell in love with the “mustard” shade last fall/winter and after putting it on hold for most of the summer, I was excited to bust it back out!  Here is my take on the outfit.

I did I litte reverse since I don’t own a plaid scarf, but really liked this look for a cold Dallas day!  It will definitly be a repeate outfit before it warms up!

Shirt -Express
Scarf – random mass scarf purchase via groupon (don’t ask haha)
Pants – Limited
Boots – Steve Madden (also seen here)
Purse – recent Target clearance find! 🙂

{Dots, Mint, & Coral}

Hey, this outfit matches my blog! 🙂  I have actually owned all of these pieces for awhile, but never paired them together untill being “Pin-spired”!  I really liked how it came together and made me feel springy during the blah of January and I plan to wear it again during spring with a light colored skirt or jeans.

Sweater – Old Navy

Shirt – Forever 21

Necklace – Groopdealz

Pants – Express

Thanks for stopping by!  I can’t wait to see what everyone else has been wearing this month!

The 3 Amigos

Well after dusting off this ol blog I found this post I typed up almost a year ago in Feb 2013 that I never posted.

Well hello there blog…it’s been awhile, eh?  I was hit with some writing inspiration today so I thought I would run with it.  As the “winter” season wraps up, I started to think about all of my winter favs I will soon bid farewell for awhile.  Today, I realized that I was wearing 3 of these items!

Exhibit A

Dear Express Red Jeans – oh how I love you!  I have definitely worn you the most out of all my skinny jeans and I am sure you are the envy of all my other skinnies because I think they have caught on I like you the best.  I can’t help it – you are sassy, loud, fun, and are so versatile!  I love finding new ways to wear you.  Don’t you worry, I plan to squeeze as much use out of you before pants are no longer comfortable to wear in the hot Texas heat!

Exhibit B

Dear Tan Polka Dot Old Navy Sweater – You were on my radar as soon as I saw you pop up all over Pinterest.  I was dying to pair you with my turquoise skinnies but I searched and searched and couldn’t find you in my size anywhere!  Just when I was about to give up, I spotted you on one of those creepy “SuperModelquins” in my size and I politely asked a salesperson to strip you off of her and we have been together ever since.  I have found several different ways to wear you, and hope to continue our relationship throughout the spring!  PS You also almost made me lose my iPhone because I was so excited about finding you, I left my phone in the dressing room and luckily an employee found it and brought it up front as I was checking out.  #crisisavoided

Homegirl 2nd from the left and I share the same fashion taste…I stripped her of another shirt recently too!  Sorry girlie!

Exhibit C

Dear Steve Madden Intyce Boots – Even though it seems like every girl in Dallas owns you, I know I am your one and only.  I bought you last year and wore you so much that I had to take you in to get your soles repaired before the start of the winter season (January 2014 edit: I also ended up getting the soles fixed a 2nd time in April 2013 before my trip to Spain…and they probably need a 3rd repair after all the use I got out of them while abroad!), but you have been as good as new ever since!  I also noticed that you are on sale right now…which instantly made me angry (because I love a good deal) but now I am considering purchasing your fraternal twin in black.  Would you be jealous??

January 2014 update – I do still own and love all 3 of those articles of clothing!  I never did purchase the above mentioned “fraternal twin” of the Intyce boot, but I am proud to announce that my boot family has grown by 2 members with the purchase of the following 2 pairs of Miz Mooz with the encouragement of Schaeffer over at Pinterest Told Me To.

I almost feel a little silly that I have these in both brown and black but I first got the black pair during the Anniversary sale at Nordstrom this summer and couldn’t wait until fall to bust them out.  But since it basically went from summer to winter here in Dallas, I didn’t realize my love for these boots until November which was perfect timing for me to snag the brown pair on Cyber Monday!  Double score!  I was in the market for a new brown pair because during my 2013 trip to Spain during the “coldest spring Madrid has had since the 1920s” I ended up wearing my Steve Madden pair every day and night so I have grown a little tired of them (and they are pretty worn).

IMG_0864In case you needed proof of me wearing “The Three Amigos”…this was taken in Madrid last April with my Boston Bestie Elana!

I am super excited because today is my first link up with 2 of my fav fellow Texas blog gals Shanna and Sarah!

Hello Again + Pinterest Challenge

Well hello there!  Clearly blogging wasn’t in the cards for me in 2013, but hoping that 2014 will be a different game!  I discovered a ton of fun blogs last year that I enjoy stalking reading daily which have inspired me to get back on the blog train!  I also made a new years resolution to attempt to utilize more of my 4000+ Pinterest pins and plan to share those pinning attempts here.  Here is a look at how the first full week of 2014 pinned, I mean played out:

1.  Crock Pot Orange Chicken (1.2.14)

My first ever recipe in my new Crockpot that Santa brought me that I am now OBSESSED with!  What took me so long to get on board?

2. Leopard, Red, and Denim (1.3.14)

(original inspiration pin had a shady link)  Excuse my selfie…I thought I was being cute by mimicking the exact stance of the model but now realize I just look like a goof!

3. My Fit Foods Dupes from The Slender Student (1.5.14)

(via my instagram)

Seriously.  Go out and buy the ingredients in her shopping list (how convenient of her right?) and make these now!  You will thank yourself in the morning when you don’t have to scramble around to pack a lunch and you will also get to enjoy a healthy tasty lunch!  FYI these are a little on the spicy side but can be adjusted.

4.  Puffy Vest and Plaid (1.7.14)

(original inspiration pin found here)

I love my new puffy vest from Old Navy!  I was pumped to find it on sale while home in San Antonio for Christmas!  It is sold out online, but you may still be able to snag it in a store near you!

5.  & 6. Coral, Denim, and Leopard with a “Fake” knot tied scarf

(original inspiration pin found here)

7. Pink and Black

Not that exciting but it was an outfit I pin I attempts to use so it counts!  I didn’t take a pic of my own outfit, but I styled it with my new Old Navy sweater (which I got on sale for $8!) over a pink long sleeved shirt I got at the Gap a few years ago paired with leggings.   It was a comfy outfit but left me feeling a little blah (hence why there was not a pic ha!).

8.  Southwest Crockpot Chicken

Original recipe found here.  I altered it a little and served it on top of lettuce shreds with pico de gallo, salsa, and a scoop of greek yogurt mixed with taco seasoning.  It was delicious!!  We loved it and I have a feeling this will become a repeat dish!

9.  Mustard Jeans and Stripes

(original inspiration pin found here)

This was my “casual friday” outfit from last week.  Oh how I wish I could wear jeans every day…or even better – leggings!!

I always seem to find myself pinning a bajillion scarf tying tutorials but never end up attempting them.  However, I have a feeling this one will become my new go-to method.  It is much better than the lumpy awkward knot I used to find myself tying!

Fashion Friday – Mustard

Well I totally meant to post this days ago, but this week got away from me!  I have been a crazy, outfit pinning fool lately on pinterest and decided I really needed to start using my pins for daily outfit inspiration.  I have been obsessed with mustard tones this fall (if you told me this a few years ago, I probably would have said ewwww) and have recently purchased a mustard skirt, and cardigan (seen here!) both from The Limited.  So I have kept my eyes peeled when stalking pinterest to find ways to utilize both.  Which brings us to exhibit A:

I had all the essentials to create this look so I was pumped!  While getting ready I thought about trying it with my ‘ol faithful Steve Madden boots (that everyone and their mother seems to have – even my Mom has some similar!) and ended up being faced with a decision:

Excuse my creepy mirror selfies…

I instantly was sold on the boots option (mainly because I love the cozy feeling of socks + tights) but plan to utilize the pumps option in the future.  I sorta felt like I stepped out of Nashville, but I was ok with that!  Yay for outfit inspirations!

Shirt – Forever 21 (similar)

Skirt – The Limited

Sweater – Loft, from 2009! (similar)

Tights – Who knows?!  Target I think.

Boots – Steve Madden

Necklace – Premier Designs (from when I hosted a party last year)

Happy Friday!! 🙂

Friday Favs

Today I am doing my first ever blog link up with one of my fav (former Dallas) bloggers, The Bargain Blonde to share some of my current favorite things:

I have said it before, but I LOVE getting things for free!  Since my birthday was yesterday, my email has been blowing up the past 2 weeks with nonstop deals.  I love it!  So far I have cashed in my free Which Wich, Starbucks, Jason’s Deli, and Yummilicious fro-yo!  I still have a few more to redeem next week and looking forward to it!

 Chiffon Tops

I am seriously obsessed!!  If it’s made of chiffon, I pretty much want it on my body asap.  I actually got a total of 4 for my birthday from my cousins Stephanie and Julie!  One of which happens to be this exact shirt:

 Animal Print

ROAR! I have always been a fan of animal print and I love how leopard print is everywhere you look these days!  Plus it goes with almost everything and can spice up any outfit!

 Christopher Columbus

Yes, you read that right.  I love him because he discovered America…ok who am I kidding?  I love him because he is the reason I always get a 3 day weekend around my birthday!  Holla for bank holidays!!

Camp Gladiator

The final week of this session just wrapped up, but I ended up signing up for the next one!  CG STRONG!  Fun fact – CG and I have the same birthday! 🙂

I am such a late bloomer with social networking these days.  I resisted twitter for years and when I finally caved I became a tweeting maniac so it’s no surprise that the same thing is occurring with Instagram.  If you follow me, I am sorry if I am annoying!  🙂

What are you favorite things this week??  Happy Friday!
